Louis W. H. Heynen served in the US Navy during World War II attaining rank of Lieutenant Commander before the war ended.

Note

Louis W. H. Heynen (class of 1924) and his future brother-in-law, Carl Dierking Theobald, (class of 1924 and graduate in engineering 1927) along with Carl's cousin, John Jacob Theobald (class of 1925) were all members of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity during their overlapping years as students at Columbia. They were also student athletes at the same time, Heynen and Carl on the crew team, Carl on the water polo team (and captain one year), and John on the track team (and captain one year).
