Constance Pomeroy Obituary
Constance Heynen Pomeroy passed away on December 19, 2022, at the age of 92. She was born on August 1, 1930, in New York City. The daughter of Louis W. Heynen and Barbara E. Shea, Connie moved with her mother to Portsmouth, VA in 1943, where she completed high school and attended the College of William & Mary. Connie married Leslie K. Pomeroy, Jr., Class of '47 USNA on February 26, 1949. That was the beginning of an adventurous life of 73 years of marriage, which included Les' 26-year Navy career and his 15-year career as a college professor at Providence College in RI. Connie enjoyed traveling and living in many interesting places, to include London, England for two years. Connie and Les shared a passion for snow skiing, duplicate bridge, and sailing on their sailboat, Wind Song. In 1997 Connie and Les moved to Virginia Beach, VA, and subsequently moved in 2011 to the Lake Prince Woods retirement community in Suffolk, VA. Connie was a member of the Mayflower Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Huguenot Society of Rhode Island. Connie was a devoted wife to Les (who passed away on July 23, 2022) and is survived by their three children: David Pomeroy (wife Karen) of Arlington, VA; Anne Doerge (husband Dan) of Ocala, FL; Catherine Hankins (husband Dan) of Midlothian, VA; Five grandchildren: Scott Smith, Connie Pfeiffer-Jones, Shelly Ueberroth, Erin and Robin Pomeroy; Four great- grandchildren, Catherine and Caroline Pfeiffer, and Stella and Jack Ueber- roth. Connie will be buried alongside Les at Arlington National Cemetery. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Downtown Suffolk Chapel is serving the family. Your mom was my mother's step-sister. Aunt Connie to me. She always shared stories of them growing up together. I will remember her bubbly personality and love. My condolences on the loss of your mother and father.
