Note: The 1850 US Census for New York City lists Abigail Lennington, age 12, as a member of the household of Sarah Lennington, age 105, along with John E. Thorne, age 34 and Amanda Thorne, age 19. The census for that year did not indicate whether household members were related to each other. John E. Thorne was clearly Sarah Lennington's grandson and Amanda Thorne his wife, but Abigail Lennington might not have been a daughter. If she was not John E. Thorne's daughter by birth, however, she was certainly his daughter by adoption, because Sarah Lenningon's will calls Abigail Lennington Thorne her great-granddaughter.
