Note: The 1850 US Census for New York City lists Abigail Lennington, age 12, as a member of the household of Sarah Lennington, age 105, along with John E. Thorne, age 34 and Amanda Thorne, age 19. The census for that year did not indicate whether household members were related to each other. John E. Thorne was clearly Sarah Lennington's grandson and Amanda Thorne his wife, but Abigail Lennington might not have been a daughter. If she was not John E. Thorne's daughter by birth, however, she was certainly his daughter by adoption, because Sarah Lenningon's will calls Abigail Lennington Thorne her great-granddaughter. Shared note

US Census, 1850, Brooklyn, 9th Ward lists the following as belonging
to the same Household (133) and Dwelling (98) numbers:

Sarah Lenington, b. 1745 NJ, Age 105 years John E Thorne, b. 1814
NY, Age 34 years Amanda P. Thorne, b. 1831, Age 19 years Abigail
Lenington, b. 1838, Age 12 years

John E. Thorne was Sarah Lenington's grandson, so there's a generation
missing in the household. John E. Thorne is listed as Amanda and
Abigail's father. Amanda P. Thorne married James M. Gray, who was
the head of the Moody Bible Institute and wrote some hymns. It appears
that he was pretty influential in NY religious circles. Amanda died
in childbirth n 1860 at age 29.

In 1839, John Edmund Thorne, grandson of Thomas Lenington and his
wife, Sarah, was a resident of Brooklyn, New York, aged twenty-four
years. He stated then that he had frequently seen the family Bible
record of marriage of his grandparents, and that about two years
previously (1837) that record had been torn from said Bible by "an
heir of his grandfather and an enemy of his children, from malicious
motives", but he did not state the name of that heir. No reference
was made to another marriage of Thomas Lenington.
