Joe Flaherty:

They lived near Mayberry in what is now Carroll Co. MD where he farmed 28 1/2 acres that had been purchased from his father's estate . In his will which was probated in Westminster on Sept. 23, 1839 and associated estate papers it indicates that he was also a cooper, did cloth weaving, raised bees, and possessed a number of old German books at his death which means that he could probably read in that language. It is said that Peter was considered to be a peaceable man, honorable and upright, and one who loved by his neighbors. He and his family were members of the Reformed congregation of St Mary's at Silver Run.
