Joe Flaherty: The first child of our Stonesifer family, his exact date of birth is not known. However, his baptism as stated above was performed by Rev Jacob Lischy and John martin Rutter and his wi fe, Anna Margretha, were the sponsors. Till the early 1780'a he helped his father to establish the family homestead plantation. The about 1783 he married Margaret Haintz. They had 6 children, and lived in Westminster Town as it was then known. T here he was a cordwainer- a trade involving with making all types of leather goods as well as being a shoemaker. Martin also bought and sold several properties in town in the 1790's, perhaps on a speculation basis . Around 1799 , the family moved to the Uniontown area where he apparently died a few years later. His wife is buried in the old original cemetery of St Mary's church at Silver Run. |
