Joe Flaherty: She was the youngest and last surviving child of the John Daniel Stonesifer family. It cannot be determined definitely is she was ever married. However, in the estate papers of her father, she is mentioned in one place as Hannah Stone, and there were Stones living in the same area as the Stonesifers. She lived at home with her parents, and after her father's death , took care of their mother who continued to live on the home place until her death. Some years after her mother's death, Hannah purchased some forty acres of land from Henry Routson who was married to the daughter of her sister Barbara. The tract was one which Henry ha d bought at the time of the sale of John Daniel Stonesifer's real estate in 1828 and was located in the area of the present day Mayberry in Carroll Co MD. On this land which once belonged to her father, Hannah made a home not only for herself, but her daughter and her husband and their son lived there also. She died there at the age of 80 years, and among her possessions listed in an inventory after her death were a spinning wheel, a number of German books (items likely purchased many years before from her father' s estate), and many beautiful quilts and coverlets. Apparently she was a seamstress of very considerable ability and creativity. She was a lifelong member of St Mary's Reformed congregation at Silver Run. |
