[Leppo.FTW] Obituary--W. L. Sterner, founder of hardware firm, dies--Hanover--WalterL. Sterner, 510 Frederick St., founder of W. L. Sterner, Inc., diedMonday evening, April 23, 1990, at the Hanover General Hospital. He was81. Mr. Sterner owned and served as president of the hardware businessat 516 Frederick St. He founded the company in 1930. Born in WestManheim Township, Mr. Sterner was the son of the late William A. andIrene Baum Sterner. He was the husband of Enda A. Gobrecht Sterner. Hewas a member of St. Bartholomew Lutheran Church, the Sunday school, andthe Sunday school orchestra. He was past treasurer of the Penn TownshipSewer Authority, a life member of Friendship Fire Co., and a member ofthe Hanover Chamber of Commerce, Pennsylvania Farm Equipment Association,and the PASHA Hardware Association. Surviving also are two sons, DonaldL. Sterner and Alan Sterner, both of Hanover; two daughters, Marlene M.Shilling of Albany, N.Y. and Linda J. Pawelek of Hamden, Conn.; 10grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Clair W. Sternerof Hanover; and two sisters, Treva Leppo and Mildred Gobrecht, both ofHanover. The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. BartholomewLutheran Church, 1204 Grand Valley Road, Hanover. His pastor, the Rev.H. Thomas Miller Jr., will officiate. Burial will be in Rest HavenCemetery in Hanover. Viewings will be held Wednesday evening at theKenworthy Funeral Home, 269 Frederick St. and from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursdayat the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting NurseAssociation, 217 Broadway, Hanover or St. Bartholomew Lutheran Chruch. |
