Florence Hadley Heynen (1 Mar 1987): "Karl Rafael, born Sept. 23,
1841 and died Sept. 28, 1910. Believe he married Parthenia Porter
in Washington. She was born in 1843 and died in 1912. I recall
that there was a sword at 730 which was about 1943. I was told that
it belonged to an Admiral (family). Constance used it to cut the
wedding cake. When Virginia moved from 730 Riverside Drive, it was
stolen so I learned."

"I saw a letter from Carl R. Roelker written in 1874 to Aunt Minnie
shortly after her marriage to Hugo. He was aboard the USS Shenandoah
at Key West. It is warm and kind."

From a letter of 12 Oct. 1989: "CRR was commissioned as Charles R.
Roelker, into the US Navy from New York in 1862 as 2d Asst. Engineer
and served through the Civil War until 1866. Afterwards he served
continuously going through the grades until 1903 when he retired
as Rear Admiral. He married Parthenia Porter of Washington DC in
1868 and mde his home there until his death."
