Jacob married Susanna "Susan" Wentz. She died Oct. 24, 1798 ; he then married Maria Susanna "Susan" Melsheimer - b. May 13, 1797 - d. Aug. 3, 1854. His first wife, whose last name is sometimes given as Vance due to the German pronunciation of Wentz, was the sixth child of Frederick Wentz, Jr. Jacob was a miller in Carroll Co. for six years, then about 1815 he moved to Germany township, Adams, Co. , Pa. near his father . After milling again for a few years he acquired some 98 acres of land three miles south of Littlestown near the Md.-Pa. line and became a Farmer. He was a Democrat and held several local offices . From 1841 -1845 he owned and operated Bittle's Tavern about two miles south of Littlestown and on the road leading into Maryland. Like his f a t h e r , he was an active member of the German Reformed Church, and served for many years as either elder or deacon a t Christ Church near Littlestown. As a result of his two marriages, he had a large family of 12 children. He was buried a t Christ Church, his first wife at Krider's Church near Westminster, and his second wife a t M t . Olivet Cemetery in Hanover, Pa.
