Thomas C. Thorne advertised a stallion race horse, Potomak, for breeding broadside: To cover. : The noted horse Potomak, will stand to cover the ensuing season, at the stable of William Jones, Cold-Spring, township of Oyster-Bay, Queen's County, at 10 dollar the season, 6 the single leap and 15 dollars to ensure a foal. Potomak was got by Old Messenger, his dam by Figure, his grand-dam by Bashaw, his great grand-dam by Hero. He is a bright bay, six years old, fifteen hands and a half high, well made, and from his strength and bone, is likely to... [Portsmouth, N.H. : s. n., 1802] 1 sheet ([1] p.) ; 21 x 15 cm Potomak was got by Old Messenger and his dam was Figure. He was a bay horse and was foaled in 1796. He ran most of his races in the state of New York. illustrated with a fine woodcut of the horse and his groom. Lists times he will be standing at the stable of William Jones of Oyster Bay, New York. Annotated in pencil at the top and bottom at an unknown time by a former owner of the broadside. One of the earliest illustrated broadsheets we have seen for announcing a stallion to stand in stud. |
