Note

THIRD GENERATION

  1. Joseph Thorne was born in 1668 in Whitestone Point, Flushing, Long Island, NY. He died in Jul 1753 in Whitestone Point, Flushing, Long Island, NY. He was Quaker. Joseph Thorne lived a quiet & industrious life. He was fully involved with his farming, faith & his family. Not much apers about him in official records & I speculate that he lived out his entire life much as the rest of the Thorne family just quietly taking care of business, enjoying his family & attending the meetings of the Religious Society of Friends.

He was married to Martha Johanna Bowne (daughter of John Bowne and Hannah Feake) on 9 Nov 1695 in Benjamin Field's in Flushing, NY. Marriage site was the home of her brother-in-law Benjamin Field and sister Hannah Bowne. Marriage one Martha Johanna Bowne was born on 17 Aug 1673 in Flushing, Long Island, NY. She died on 1 Aug 1750 in Whitestone Point, Flushing, Long Island, NY. She was Quaker. Philip V. Thorne Notes:

I have a copy of her signature from a Quaker Wedding Certificate; this also includes signatures of several other family members.

Martha Johanna Bowne and Joseph Thorne were married in Flushing at the home of her sister Hannah Bowne and her husband Benjamin Field.

Martha Johanna Bowne Thorne was named after her aunt Martha Johanna Wintrhop, daughter of Henry Winthrop (son of Governor John Winthrop) and Elizabeth Ffones Winthrop (That Winthrop Woman). Joseph Thorne and Martha Johanna Bowne had the following children:

child+159 i. Samuel Thorn.
child+160 ii. Joseph Thorne.
child+161 iii. John Thorne.
child+162 iv. Thomas Thorne.
child+163 v. William Thorne.
child+164 vi. James Thorne.

Myer-Thorne genealogy:
Lived a quiet and industrious life.

thornfamily.net Joseph Thorne, a third son of the patentee, married
Mary Bowne, daughter of John Bowne in 1690 and likewise remained
in Flushing. He too traded in land, selling a tract of 60 acres to
Paulas Amerman of Flatbush in 1696 for the sum of f 55 (supra Liber
B1, page 321). Joseph remained in Flushing throughout his life and
died there "the 3rd month 1727". Three of Joseph's sons, including
Israel, the eldest, moved during the period of 1725-50 to the Nine
Partners Patent (northeast of Poughkeepsie, Duchess County) where
they became active in the Quaker movement.

From the census of Flushing, L.I. In 1678, we find enumeration:

William Thorne Jr. wife Winifred and three children.

John2 Thorne wife Mary ------ three children

Joseph Thorne wife Mary ------ nine children

Samuel Thorne wife Susannah -------- six children
