NYT, November 14, 1897, Wednesday, Page 10, 918 words: William Van Wyck and his wife, Lydia Maverick, had four sons and two daughters. The eldest, Samuel, became a physician. At the outbreak of the civil war he was appointed Surgeon of Col. N.B. Forest's regiment of Confederate calvalry. He was killed in battle. His widow and two sons survive him and are now living Anderson, S.C. (MAYOR-ELECT A MAVERICK; Judge Van Wyck Descended from the Famous Southern Family of That Name. ANCESTORS OWNED MANY ACRES " Maverick," a New Word Given to the Language, as Applied to Unbranded Cattle on Western Ranges, Derived from His Progenitor.
